  • It should not be a surprise for anyone that a child is affected when he or she sees that their parents are constantly fighting and cannot get along well with each other. Surely there is no perfect relationship which does not have conflicts from time to time because sometimes it is normal to have a different opinion than your partner or to tell your partner that he or she has done something which hurt you. However, it is extremely important to know how to solve the conflicts which exist between you and your partner without destroying your relationship especially when you have a child who has to assist to the to all the fights you have. Parental conflict is extremely harmful to a child because your kids are too little to understand exactly why you and your partner are fighting and often believe that they are the main reason of your conflict which makes them feel guilty for affecting the relationship of their parents.

When kids witness fighting episodes between their parents, they have powerful reactions caused by fear, anger, anxiety, and sadness which considerably affects their mental well-being and the way they grow into adults.  Read below how to maintain your child’s well-being and a healthy relationship with your spouse.

Solve the problems together with your partner

First of all, you need to be aware that all couples have conflicts from time to time. However, this does not mean that you and your partner no longer love each other. You need to remember that when you have decided to start a family you have both agreed to walk together on this path. No matter if you have financial problems, you or your partner is fighting depression or other health problem, or you are or stressed because of your jobs, you need to remember that only by working together you can find the best solutions for the problems which affect your family.

Keep the conflicts away from your child’s ears

One of the best ways to protect your child from being affected by the conflicts you have with your partner is to keep them away from your kid’s ears. You need to calmly discuss the problems you and your partner have when your child is not around because even if the conflict is not such a serious matter, your child might believe that you and your partner are incredibly affected by it, and therefore he or she will also start to feel negative emotions which affect his or her mental health.

    Know when to say goodbye

Unfortunately, it might happen sometimes that the relationship between you and your partner is not working anymore no matter how hard you have tried to solve the problems between you two even if you both love your child incredibly much. However, if you truly love your child you need to realize that it would be better for your child’s health if you and your partner separate rather than for your child to have to witness aggressive fights which are incredibly consuming and harmful for him or her.
